Annual Events

The Greater Portland Old English Sheepdog Club sponsors several events throughout the year. Each event offers an opportunity for club members and guests to visit, share news and information about our breed, and to let our OES run and play together—always a great photo opportunity!

Events are typically held at a location that allows plenty of fenced area for our OES to run and play, and hold our general meetings. Events are generally scheduled a month or two in advance. Time and place are announced in The Pinkertongue on our Home Page.

Annual & Special Events:

Walkabouts. Third weekend of each month. Walkabouts take place generally the third weekend of every month at various Portland Metropolitian locations. Check the Walkabouts page for our upcoming walk. Walkabouts >>

Christmas Party & Gift Exchange. December. Please join us for an evening of food fun and everything sheepdog! The club will provide the main course as well as side dishes and desserts. Members and guests do not need to bring a dish. Dinner will be followed by the board and general meeting, including election of officers and board members, and by the popular gift exchange. This event is one of the craziest times of the year, as gifts may be “stolen” up to three times. Please leave your OES at home to wait for Santa.

Peacock Lane Shaggy Dog Walk. December. Time and day generally annouced one week in advance, depending on weather forecasts. This parade of Old English Sheepdogs among the beautiful lights of Peacock Lane always draws a crowd and is a great photo opportunity.

Spring Fling & Egg Hunt. The annual GPOESC Spring Fling event is held in the month of May. This is typically and indoor/outdoor event. The club provides hamburgers and hotdogs. The side dishes are potluck, so please bring your favorite dish to share. Our spring event allows our dogs to run, play and hop in a fenced yard and features the always popular egg hunt for prizes. We invite all members and non-members to join in the fun.

AKC Educational Match (co-match) An educational event featuring dogs of all breeds presented at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Hillsboro, OR. A booth will be setup for the day of the event (8 am - 3 pm), and GPOESC has an information tent at this event specific to Old English Sheepdogs in the herding group area. Visit with clubs and breeders of most AKC-recognized breeds coupled with educational seminars on showing conformation and in-the-ring showing of your dog. A great opportunity to get a feel for seeing and learning about dog breeds and dog shows. See photos of the 2010 event >>
